Youth Anti-Social Behaviour and Underage Drinking Enforcement in Cannock
During September 2026, officers and partner agencies carried out targeted patrols and engagement activities across Cannock Town Centre and Cannock Park in response to reports of youth-related anti-social behaviour and underage drinking.
As a result of this proactive work, 21 Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) warnings were issued to young people involved in anti-social behaviour, including incidents involving the consumption of alcohol by persons under the age of 18.
The Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) is in place across Cannock Town Centre, Hednesford Town Centre and Rugeley Town Centre and provides powers to address behaviour that has a negative impact on the local community. The order prohibits a number of activities, including: The PSPO is designed to ensure that town centres and public spaces remain safe, welcoming and enjoyable for residents, businesses and visitors.
Of the juveniles identified during recent enforcement activity, two had previously been issued PSPO warnings for similar behaviour. Due to their continued involvement in anti-social behaviour, their parents or guardians will be issued with a £100 Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) as part of the escalation process for persistent anti-social behaviour and repeated breaches of the PSPO.
Residents, parents and young people are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the conditions of the PSPO. Full details of all prohibited behaviours, exemptions and enforcement powers, along with maps showing the designated PSPO areas in Cannock, Hednesford and Rugeley, can be viewed on the Cannock Chase District Council website.
We will continue to work closely with partner agencies, schools, parents and the wider community to tackle anti-social behaviour, educate young people about the consequences of their actions and encourage positive use of public spaces. Anyone experiencing anti-social behaviour is encouraged to report it via Staffordshire Police online, by calling 101, or by calling 999 in an emergency. | ||
